How this site handles data
The Institute publishes consumer protection standards, so it holds itself to the practice it asks of others. This page states plainly what the site collects, what it does not, and how long anything is kept.
Reading this site
Nothing is collected when you read
You can read every page and download every standard without the site recording anything about you. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.
- No cookies are set, on any page or any file
- No use of local storage, session storage, or any other storage on your device
- No analytics, no tracking pixels, and no advertising technology
- No content is loaded from third parties. Fonts are served from this site, not from an outside provider, so no other company sees your visit
- Page requests are not logged. Reading the site leaves no record of your address
Links to other sites appear in a few places. Those load nothing until you choose to follow them, and once you do, the site you arrive at applies its own practices.
The contact form
What you send, and where it goes
The contact form is the only place the site asks for anything. It collects the fields you complete: your name, your email address, your organization if you give one, the subject you select, a document reference if you add one, and your message.
That information is used for one purpose, which is to read and answer your inquiry. It is delivered to the Institute as an email message. It is not used for marketing, is not added to any mailing list, and is not sold, rented, or shared with anyone else.
When the form is submitted, the services that receive it record the network address the submission came from, the browser identifier your device sends, and the email address you entered. That is kept to detect abuse of a public form and to diagnose faults, and for nothing else. The message you write is not recorded in those logs.
Retention
Thirty days
The submission records described above are deleted automatically 30 days after they are recorded, and that deletion is enforced by the services that hold them rather than depending on anyone to remember it.
Your message itself is deleted within 30 days. It reaches the Institute as email, so that deletion is a practice the Institute follows rather than something a system carries out on its own.
Your choices
Asking what is held, or asking us to delete it
You can ask what the Institute holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted before the 30 days have run. Use the contact form and select Other as the subject. Because nothing is recorded when you simply read the site, such a request can only concern a message you have previously sent.
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the rights available to you under your own law apply to that request, and the Institute will act on it.
